McGreevy’s Toys Direct
Convenience store and toy shop finds a reliable new payments partner.
Fourth-generation McGreevy’s Toys Direct leverages bank referral from PTSB to reduce costs and achieve other desired business outcomes by changing to Worldpay
In business since 1904, McGreevy’s Toys Direct is a family-owned, fourth-generation convenience store and toy shop located in the charming town of Westport, County Mayo, on Ireland’s west coast.
Home to some of the world's best-known brands, including LEGO, Barbie, Siku, Britain's, Bruder, VTech and many more, McGreevy’s also offers a large range of board games, jigsaw puzzles, arts and crafts, stationery and outdoor toys.
Additionally, as a large newsagent business, McGreevy’s sells a variety of groceries, wine and coffee, and also has an enticing ice cream counter that’s well known in the area for their award-winning 99 Flake offerings.
Serving both locals and tourists, the business is committed to offering a wide array of quality items at the best value.
Slow equipment and poor support compels business to seek change
According to Donard McGreevy, director and owner at McGreevy’s Toys Direct, “Due to the extremely slow payment terminals, unacceptable customer service and zero accountability we experienced working with a different provider – coupled with a strong requirement for quick, reliable card terminals and a trusted point of contact when we need support – we sought a very needed change to a different payment processor.”
Bank referral from PTSB leads McGreevy’s Toys Direct to Worldpay
It was then, Donard recalls, “Our PTSB bank manager introduced us to Worldpay.”
With a banking history encompassing more than 200 years, PTSB is one of Ireland's longest-serving financial institutions and is a leading provider of business and personal banking services in the Irish market.
Immediate improvements achieved
After switching to Worldpay as their payments partner, McGreevy’s Toys Direct experienced clear improvements.
“With Worldpay, our costs have been noticeably reduced compared with our previous provider,” says Donard. “Our in-store payment terminals also now operate much faster than before, and they were easily installed by my Worldpay rep with no issues or downtime at all.”
And for Donard, having much faster transactions means a faster turnaround time at the point-of-sale. “Customers no longer have to wait for their payments to go through, so it helps to greatly reduce queues in the store.”
Worldpay Dashboard
Additionally, McGreevy’s Toys Direct uses Worldpay Dashboard to access a complete view of their business and payments activity, allowing them to interact with assorted information and data in real time – from card sales to settlements and invoices.
Donard is quick to note, “I rely on the Worldpay Dashboard daily. It offers a comprehensive and invaluable overview of our payment transactions – essentially providing me with all the information I need.”
“In the end,” summarizes Donard, “everything with Worldpay is straightforward and easy. Their payment systems work as they’re supposed to, we have reduced our costs, and I can pick up the phone at any time to speak with our very responsive relationship manager for any support we may need.”
