Worldpay Continues Collaboration with Google to Advance Agentic Commerce with Universal Commerce Protocol
Cincinnati, January 28, 2026 – Worldpay® a global leader in payments technology, is pleased to announce the continuation of its work with Google, joining forces to evolve and scale agentic commerce through their newly launched Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). Working with Google, Worldpay will further its commitment to open standards, trust, and seamless shopping experiences for merchants and consumers.
Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) is a new open standard designed to unify agentic commerce. UCP creates a common language for agents and systems, solving the challenge of fragmented shopping journeys by enabling seamless interactions between agents. It is extensible across verticals and compatible with existing protocols such as Agent2Agent (A2A), Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Commenting on the protocol, Cindy Turner, chief product officer said:
“To scale at pace, agentic commerce needs to be built on open standards, trust and infrastructure that are familiar to merchants. Google's Universal Commerce Protocol is a strong step toward helping bring discovery, checkout, and payments together while keeping merchants in control. At Worldpay, we’re pleased to continue our collaboration with Google and encouraged by approaches like this that reduce fragmentation while enabling merchants to meet shoppers at the moment of intent, without adding complexity."
“The future of agentic commerce is open and collaborative. We’re proud to work across the industry with partners like Worldpay to ensure the Universal Commerce Protocol makes retail seamless and helpful for the entire ecosystem,” said Ashish Gupta, VP/GM, Merchant Shopping, Google.
UCP will power agentic commerce experiences across the web, including frictionless shopping on Google. The new checkout feature, powered by UCP, launches soonAI Mode in Google Search and the Gemini app, allowing shoppers to buy directly from eligible U.S. retailers as they research products on Google.
As agentic commerce continues to take shape, Worldpay is committed to make it safer, simpler and built around trust. That means helping retailers offer experiences where shoppers stay in control, AI agents act with transparency, and fraud risks are kept in check. Worldpay is developing the technology that connects retailers with trusted AI platforms – so consumers can embrace this new era of shopping with confidence.
