London team puts Worldpay in record books
Longest card payment relay supports King’s Trust charity.
Worldpayers work every day to make payments flow as seamlessly and efficiently as possible all over the world. Last month, hundreds gathered at Worldpay’s London office to do exactly the opposite – all for a good cause.
On Dec. 17, a team of Worldpayers set a Guinness World Record for “the longest relay of people processing a card payment.” The previous record was 300 people.
The effort was made in support of the King’s Trust, a Worldpay Gives charity partner.
When the initial lineup in the company’s City of London home was found to be 120 people short, the pressure was on to encourage others to join. By the final tally, though, the Million Makers team, joined by many more enthusiastic Worldpayers, had rounded up enough people to secure Worldpay’s place in the record books.
A Guinness World Records representative was on hand to adjudicate and certify the attempt. There were gasps when she said that there were discrepancies in the number of reported participants and that there had been a disqualification because some had not followed the rules of the process. Those turned to cheers, though, when she announced that, despite the disqualification, “you have achieved 308 for passing the current record.”
In addition, Worldpay donated 200 Santa hats to the King’s Trust. The hats added holiday cheer among attendees of the trust's Christmas parties.
The King's Trust, known for its work with young people, hosted several events where the donated hats played a role in creating a festive atmosphere.
The King’s Trust helps people age 11 to 30 to develop essential life skills, get ready for work and gain access to job opportunities. The trust was established in 1976 as the Prince’s Trust by Prince Charles, now Britain’s King Charles III. Its initial community initiatives were funded using the then-prince’s severance pay from his service in the Royal Navy.
The King’s Trust has assisted more than 1 million young people with education and training, entrepreneurial resources and other resources. It has grown to encompass a global network of charities through five subsidiaries operating as the King’s Trust Group; they operate across the United States; Australia, Canada and New Zealand; and in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Worldpay is proud to support the King’s Trust’s mission of empowering our next generation with the tools it needs for success and bringing joy to those in need during the holiday season.
