Canon Medical Arena realizes noted improvements after implementing Worldpay’s efficient, cost-effective POS system

Owned via a partnership between Park Community Arena Ltd. and Canon Medical Systems, Canon Medical Arena – a multipurpose sports facility and integrated medical diagnostic centre, and the U.K.’s first carbon-neutral-built arena − officially opened in Sheffield, Northern England, in October 2023.

Featuring three full-size basketball courts, seating for 2,500 and also offering flexible event space, the arena's main tenants are the very successful Sheffield Sharks (men’s) and Sheffield Hatters (women’s) basketball teams.

Acting as a magnet for the Greater Sheffield community, the Canon Medical Arena creates an affordable and accessible environment where people can gather to view live events, participate in sports and improve their health.

Desired POS system features

According to Yuri Matischen, managing director of the Cannon Medical Arena, dependability, mobility and ease-of-use were the primary attributes he sought for the facility’s point-of-sale (POS) system.

“We really needed reliability. We also needed to make sure that the system could be portable, because we're not in fixed locations for our food and beverages sales. And it also had to be simple to use, with us all moving around,” he notes.

As Yuri recalls, “The transformation from our previous supplier to Worldpay worked really, really well. Additionally, many of our workers all comment on how easy the Worldpay system is to navigate. It's been very simple for us to use.”

As he reflects on the differences between Worldpay’s solution and his prior provider’s, Yuri observes, “For us, the information that's on the Worldpay system is better than our previous system. So we know more about our products, our sales and what we need to order.

"The Worldpay POS system," he concludes, "is efficient, cost-effective and has brought our costs down. I have no problem with recommending it to other smaller businesses, and to larger customers, too.”
